Prince of Wolves by Quinn Loftis

I for one loved Prince of Wolves, the three main characters Sally, Jacque and Jen are absolutely fabulishish, and the book had me from the first few words.  There's a funny story about Sally, Jacque, and Jen, and truly Hope and I are going to be a little biased on this one just because we have met the amazing Quinn Loftis and it's really hard not to love her and love everything about her, especially her books.  So at Roanoke Author Invasion 2016, I took Hope and her two best friends with me.  Quinn Loftis was there.  (eeek!!!So, none of them had listened to me when I told them.... READ THE BOOK BEFORE WE GO!  Nope, they're teens so of course they know better.  And of course they immediately meet Quinn the first night we checked in to the hotel.  "We met this awesome author, her name's Quinn something, do you know her?"  "Quinn Loftis?"  "Yeah, that's her!  She's awesome!"  So I tell them..... "You 3 could star in her Prince of Wolves series....." And seriously, the three main characters are very much like Hope and her two besties.  Yes Quinn Loftis is absolutely amazing, she didn't mind my awesome blanket cape, unlike some people *cough* mom *cough*, and honestly ever since RAI me and my two partners in crime have code named each other after the mains in PoW (I'm Sally XD), anyway back to the actual book, it starts when a hot Romanian teenage boy moves in across the street from Jacque.  I have heard some people complain about the language used in PoW.  I'm not talking bad language.  I'm talking crazy teenage nonsense language.  But don't worry.  Stick with it and soon you'll find yourself well adjusted to the unique lingo that is Jacque, Jen, and Sally!  (it was easy for me, they talk like I do)

General synopsis of Prince of Wolves - Hot Romanian teen moves next door, as Hope was quick to point out.  Has weird connection to Jacque, one of the crazy trio, and of course, no surprise based off the title alone, he's a wolf.  Duh. Not only is he a wolf but he's the "prince" of the Romanian grey wolves who came to the good ol' state of Texas for his senior year, lots of things happen and Jac and Fane start dating you could say.   Yes, there is a love to story here, but Quinn does a great job of keeping things clean and definitely YA appropriate.

Pros - Fane is amazing, Jen is my inner voice, Jacque is the type of sarcastic you can't help but love, Sally is a BA, Jacque's mom is just awsomesaucem, Mr. and Mrs. Henry deserve an award or something, I could go on forever just talking about the characters, other pros, Texas is one of my favorite places and that's where the first book is set, hot chocolate is literal life and always has been.  Obsession!  Quinn Loftis's character development and world creation are phenomenal.  You will be addicted and will never be content to stop at just Prince of Wolves, which happens to be FREE on Kindle and Nook.

Cons - um... well.. nope I got nothing right now, back to you momOkay, I actually do have three.  (1.) I don't love the cover.  Sorry Quinn!  I downloaded this book and didn't actually read it for months because it just didn't grab my attention.  (2.) Typos!  This book is full of typos.  The story itself more than makes up for them, but they are there and can't be ignored.  If you stick with the series, editing improves greatly somewhere around book 3 or 4.  And last (3.)  There are 10 books and counting in the Grey Wolf Series.... beware, although we are talking exclusively on Book 1, this is a highly addictive series and you'll want to read them all! I don't consider that a con at all, the more books the better! Yeah, but my wallet does.

Hope gives this book a full 5 hearts
Mom gives this book 4 hearts

Being Jamie Baker by Kelly Oram

Let's start with the cover, cause any good book starts with a good cover and this one really grabs your attention before ever opening the book. Great job with the cover! Yeah the cover is pretty coolios with the hot pink and the lightning but lets talk about that kiss.

Hope thinks this story begins with a kiss and I guess Kelly Oram does too with this epic opening sentence:

"Most superhero stories start with a meteor shower or a nasty insect bite, but mine actually starts with a kiss"

Still I say it really starts with a dare. An epic dare that leads to the kiss!

Jamie Baker is a super BA awesome person known as the "Ice Queen".  She's the loaner other kids make fun of as she tries to pretend it doesn't bother her. If only those kids knew what she was capable of.

You see, Jamie Baker has super powers. We aren't gonna tell you too much about that though.  Yeah, trying to avoid any big spoilers, so you'll have to read for yourself to learn all about them, but she has several and is a bit out of control as she learns to use them.  Let's put it this way. She may have super powers, but she is definitely no superhero.

Enough about Jamie Baker, let's talk about Ryan *swoon*.  He's legit the perfect guy, he's funny, kind, cute, and absolutely amazing.  Definitely!  Plus Ryan Miller is the kind of guy any mom would want for her daughter. As the leading male role, he brings a lot to the story including several teen swoon-worthy moments.

Long story short, Being Jamie Baker by Kelly Oram is an amazing book that I loved every second of!  I definitely enjoyed this one too.  It's a good clean story with a little of everything... love, adventure, growing up, feels, excitement, mystery, trials, you name it this book has it in it, and it's the start of a trilogy.  Find also More Than Jamie Baker and the just released this year, highly anticipated Remember Jamie Baker.  You'll  likely fall in love with the whole series.

Overall Hope and Julie both agree that
Being Jamie Baker deserves a full 5 hearts!

Welcome to Pixels 2 Parchment

Hi!  I'm Julie, avid reader, writer, and mother of four.

Hola!  I'm Hope, one of those obnoxious four and I'm obsessed with books and TV.

This blog is starting as part of a homeschool project and just because we've been talking about doing something like this forever.  It's pretty cool to be able to talk about my favorite books without my siblings complaining and it's good extra credit for school too.  And I readily confess that I enjoy reading and even writing Young Adult books.  Doesn't matter I'm not the big 4-0 and some people think these books are for kids.  I've found there are just as many "grown ups" who read and love this genre as teens.  And yes, Hope and I often read and discuss the same books.  I love it!  I enjoy talking to my mom about book and stuff even though sometimes we don't exactly agree on some books or characters *cough* Tris Prior *cough* and it's great to be able to fangirl with someone at any time.

So, here we go.  All YA all the time.  Popular mainstream to Indie books.  Any genre within goes, only requirement is that it's teenage appropriate.  Each review will be written from a mother/older fangirl perspective, and the perspective of a fabulous teenage book junkie.  Feel free to comment any book recommendations and don't be shy to fangirl over books with me.  She means US! And I promise every book review will be read and reviewed by both of us.

Welcome to Pixels 2 Parchment!
