Being Jamie Baker by Kelly Oram

Let's start with the cover, cause any good book starts with a good cover and this one really grabs your attention before ever opening the book. Great job with the cover! Yeah the cover is pretty coolios with the hot pink and the lightning but lets talk about that kiss.

Hope thinks this story begins with a kiss and I guess Kelly Oram does too with this epic opening sentence:

"Most superhero stories start with a meteor shower or a nasty insect bite, but mine actually starts with a kiss"

Still I say it really starts with a dare. An epic dare that leads to the kiss!

Jamie Baker is a super BA awesome person known as the "Ice Queen".  She's the loaner other kids make fun of as she tries to pretend it doesn't bother her. If only those kids knew what she was capable of.

You see, Jamie Baker has super powers. We aren't gonna tell you too much about that though.  Yeah, trying to avoid any big spoilers, so you'll have to read for yourself to learn all about them, but she has several and is a bit out of control as she learns to use them.  Let's put it this way. She may have super powers, but she is definitely no superhero.

Enough about Jamie Baker, let's talk about Ryan *swoon*.  He's legit the perfect guy, he's funny, kind, cute, and absolutely amazing.  Definitely!  Plus Ryan Miller is the kind of guy any mom would want for her daughter. As the leading male role, he brings a lot to the story including several teen swoon-worthy moments.

Long story short, Being Jamie Baker by Kelly Oram is an amazing book that I loved every second of!  I definitely enjoyed this one too.  It's a good clean story with a little of everything... love, adventure, growing up, feels, excitement, mystery, trials, you name it this book has it in it, and it's the start of a trilogy.  Find also More Than Jamie Baker and the just released this year, highly anticipated Remember Jamie Baker.  You'll  likely fall in love with the whole series.

Overall Hope and Julie both agree that
Being Jamie Baker deserves a full 5 hearts!

Welcome to Pixels 2 Parchment

Hi!  I'm Julie, avid reader, writer, and mother of four.

Hola!  I'm Hope, one of those obnoxious four and I'm obsessed with books and TV.

This blog is starting as part of a homeschool project and just because we've been talking about doing something like this forever.  It's pretty cool to be able to talk about my favorite books without my siblings complaining and it's good extra credit for school too.  And I readily confess that I enjoy reading and even writing Young Adult books.  Doesn't matter I'm not the big 4-0 and some people think these books are for kids.  I've found there are just as many "grown ups" who read and love this genre as teens.  And yes, Hope and I often read and discuss the same books.  I love it!  I enjoy talking to my mom about book and stuff even though sometimes we don't exactly agree on some books or characters *cough* Tris Prior *cough* and it's great to be able to fangirl with someone at any time.

So, here we go.  All YA all the time.  Popular mainstream to Indie books.  Any genre within goes, only requirement is that it's teenage appropriate.  Each review will be written from a mother/older fangirl perspective, and the perspective of a fabulous teenage book junkie.  Feel free to comment any book recommendations and don't be shy to fangirl over books with me.  She means US! And I promise every book review will be read and reviewed by both of us.
